Big Blue heads north

AFTER remaining low-key for close to a decade, IBM Malaysia has decided to re-enter the ``local'' limelight by appointing XIOS-RDG Computing Solutions Company as its business partner in Perak.

IBM Malaysia country manager for personal systems group CK Tan said that the appointment was part of its reseller programme to reach out to the small and medium businesses (SMBs) in provincial cities.

Tan said that IBM acknowledged SMBs as a growing market and viewed it as an important segment to its business.

``We believe XIOS-RDG has the capabilities and reach in Ipoh. Our customers there will benefit from the `localised' expertise,'' he added. Tan said that the partnership will allow IBM customers to enjoy value-added support and better service.

``IBM's service is going to change now that we are here representing them and able to reach out to users at the grassroots level,'' said XIOS-RDG general manager Khen Lim.

He added that the company will also be responsible for providing support and services to IBM's customers.

Lim observed that in the past, IBM was unable to make an impact in Perak as its prices were higher compared with Hewlett-Packard, Dell and Compaq.

Things have since changed and the company recently secured orders for IBM PCs and workstations from several public listed companies in the state.

To mark the duo's partnership, the IBM Corporate Show and Seminar will be held on May 19 at the Envoy Room, Excelsior Hotel, Ipoh. For details, contact Abigail at (05) 242-8192.
