Dr. Othman Yeop Abdullah
Executive Chairman and CEO, Multimedia Development Corporation

Dr Othman is the pioneering head of the government vehicle set up in 1996 to promote and develop Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor. He has been an ardent defender of the multi-billion-ringgit project, especially during the political and economic upheavals of the last two years when it became the subject of ridicule by certain media and disillusioned investors.

Doors are opening

Dr Othman is credited with successfully luring the current crop of 288 investor companies, among which are some of the largest IT players in the world, to establish academic, research and corporate beachheads within the 750 sq km zone.

Born in Alor Setar, Kedah, Dr Othman has a Master's in Management Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a PhD in Management from the University of California at Irvine in the U.S.

He has been previously quoted as saying: "The MDC will take a far more assertive and aggressive approach in promoting the MSC in the months ahead. We are arranging one-on-one meetings with CEOs of the companies that we have targeted. In addition, we are appointing agents overseas to represent the MDC and to interface with governments and industries abroad."
